27 Apr 2008: Added lots of English and Scottish newspaper extracts from 1800 to 1900 and updated the English vital records from newspapers file, from the Gale Group's 19th Century British Newspapers collection. Some very interesting stuff in there! The English parish register files have been updated too.

24 Feb 2008: Added Death Notices (Newcastle Evening Chronicle, 2 Nov 1885- 31 Dec 1906).

22 Feb 2008: Site completely redesigned to use TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Software) as a sort of content management system. More documents are filed under the Histories and Documents sections now. All the pages have the same menu except the front page, which has a shorter version of the menu. You can now register for a user account and I will try to grant those requests as quickly as possible. Once you have an account, an Edit tab will appear on records that belong to "your' tree and you can suggest edits, which I will review. Added Lamesley burials for 1845. New feature on front page shows births of Wanless (any spelling) folk on the current day. Added Google search of the site to the Advanced Search page, at the bottom. I will continue tinkering with the logo and site in general.

29 July 2006: Added spouses to all Sunderland district marriages in the PRO index from 1837 to 1920 (Sunderland register office now has a searchable index online). Added or completed all Wanless-spelling marriages in PRO index from 1900 through 1906.

14 June 2006: Updated DNA project page with 2 new test results (no new link-ups), for trees 7 and 16. Updated GRO Marriage Index with more spouses and updated English marriages and burials files with entries from familyhistoryonline.net.

15 May 2006: Complete 1841 census for Wanless-like names in Scotland. Complete 1851 Scotland census index. Redesigned home page with new random photo display. 1841 census updates to various trees. Extensive updates to English baptisms, marrriages, and burials files covering Alston, Wallsend, Newcastle, Chester-le-Street, Gosforth, and other places.

5 Feb 2006: Added lots of 1841 Scotland census entries. Added full details from enlistment papers for WWI for Canadian soldiers (21) named Wanless/Wandless - includes next-of-kin, birthplace, physical descriptions.

30 Jan 2006: Complete 1911 Canadian census index for Wanless-like names from ancestry.com. Updated Ontario birth index to include all births in index from 1869 to 1906 plus info from the actual birth registers. Added births of children whose mother's maiden name was Wan(d)less. Updated Ontario death index to add 1897-1932 and estimated birth year for all deaths. Updated Ontario Marriage Index with spouses and new marriages. Updated Canada newspaper extracts page 1 with full account of 1880 sawmill explosion in Winnipeg that injured a Wanless - not sure which one yet.

19 Dec 2005: Added a bunch of spouses to the GRO marriage index 1866-abt 1895 by using the FamilyRelatives.org marriage match feature.

15 Dec 2005: Added complete 1891 and 1901 Scottish census index for Wan*l*s names

13 Dec 2005: New entries in the 1861 and 1871 Scottish census and the 1901 Canada census. Added 1906 Canada census (one entry so far). Added lots of extracts from the Scotsman newspaper from 1830s to 1930s (under Great Britain - Miscellaneous - Newspapers).

17 Nov 2005: Moved James Wanless & Jane Ogilvie Hilliard from tree 100 into tree 31. Merged the Luke Wanless/Ann Hall branch of database 17 into tree 8 - finally accumulated enough evidence to show that Luke was the s/o Robert Wanless & Ann Forest. Cleaned up trees 8, 17, and 100 to remove duplicate entries. Added some English census entries in 1901.

12 Nov 2005: Extracted new tree 54 out of 27.1 (descendants of James Wanless & Jean Whyte and William Wanless & Anne Johnstone, whose Dundee families merge in 1900 with a Wanless-Wanless marriage); 138 people in this tree. Finished extracting all the 1851 Northumberland census entries for all found spellings of Wan*l*s and Wanl*ce.

3 Nov 2005: Added complete index of 1861 and 1871 Scotland census for Wan*l*s, from ScotlandsPeople. Added some deaths from the Scotland GRO index and added maiden names to many existing death entries in that index. Started adding 1851 English census entries. Added special search page to search for "Person with spouse named...". More English wills. New York City marriage and death indexes 1895-1930s. Moved Rogue's Gallery to International section and added New York Times articles about Thomas Wandless, burglar of New Jersey. Linked many other existing NYT articles to people in the database so they will be searchable and removed them from the NYT articles page (work in progress).
