– Fort Thornburgh was established in Sep 1881 near Ouray CO and was moved in Apr 1882 to the mouth of Ashley Creek just north of present-day Vernal UT and abandoned in 1884. It was built to contain the Utes after several battles with the Utes over land. More here:
