An accident of a very serious nature occurred at Seaham Colliery on Wednesday last to an infant, a boy aged 18 months, belonging to Mr William Wanless, miner. A youth named Richard Gordon of Easington Lane had been hawking sand in the vicinity of Seaham Colliery and the infant was seen playing in the centre of the road near the Mill Inn. Gordon had been carelessly walking about 15 yards behind his cart and allowed his cart and horse to pass over the poor child, which was picked up off the road in a most dreadful condition. The cart wheel had passed over its shoulder and also over its head. Medical aid was at once procured, but in spite of all the efforts to save the child's life, it is expected that the accident will prove fatal. The youth in charge of the cart has been remanded before the magistrates.

Loss of a Hartlepool Vessel - 15 Men Drowned - A Reuters telegram from Copenhagen yesterday said that the German despatch vessel Blitz collided Wednesday night in the Cattegat, 8 and 1/2 miles south-southeast from the lightship Trindeln, with the British steamer Oaklands, of West Hartlepool, owned by Messrs. Hardy, Wilson & Co., bound from Blyth for Stockholm with a cargo of coals. The Oaklands sank and 15 of the crew drowned and 2 saved by the Blitz. Among the drowned was T.W. Wanless, assistant steward.

Middlesbrough Amalgamated Cycling Clubs - A meeting of this committee was held at Middlesbrough on Saturday, Mr Newton presiding. A vote of condolence with the widow and family of the late Mr Geo. Wandless Robinson, who died on Friday from the result of a cycling accident, was passed, and it was stated that the intention of making a "cyclist's funeral" had been dropped in deference to the wishes of the family.
