| Notes |
- Notes from Charlotte L. Cowe:
The burial grounds of Dundee are recorded both in Memorial Inscriptions and in the Old Parish Registers. There was no mention of the family in the list of Memorial Inscriptions for Dundee graveyards i.e. The Howff, Western Cemetery and Constitution Street. I searched the Dundee OPR of Deaths for the Howff and Constitution Road Cemeteries for mention of John Wanless. These are not indexed and there are a great many deaths recorded there but I found no trace of him. I also searched the OPR for Western Cemetery Dundee 1841-1843 but he was not recorded there either. The other Dundee cemeteries do not start until the late 1840's so I did not consult them.
Searched OPR Index for Forfarshire (1799-1790) for the possible birth of John Wanless. Noted and transcribed the following entry which was the only one around the correct time:
Robert Wanless, Flaxdresser and Ann Dackers had a son named JOHN 12 October 1794. (Named after John Black).
Siblings: Alexander 6.12.1792 (named after uncle Alexander Dakers); Janet 9.4.1797 (named after Janet Edward, Cousin); Elizabeth 1.9.1799 (named after Elizabeth Smith); William 21.11.1802 (named after William Dacres, Cousin); Margaret (Wanlace) 7.9.1805
