| Notes |
- Here are some remarkable similarities with the William Wanless/Alice Sloan family in the UK Strays database - it is possible that this is the same family:
--> In the Unknown Wandless/Alicia Frazer tree, an unknown Wandless married Alicia Frazer. Mr Wandless died about 1810 in a coal mine accident, supposedly in Whitehaven. After his death, the mother took the children to live in Newry, County Down Ireland. The children: John b. 1803 in Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow, William born about 1804-1806 in Kilmore, County Cavan, Ireland, James born before 1807 & died in India in adulthood, and Henry Thomas b. 1807-1810 in Ireland or England . William and John enlisted in the military from Newry, so the family was probably living there in the 1820s. Note it is likely the children thought they were born in Ireland because they had lived there since they were very young - the places shown above for John & Wm Jr are from their own statements in their military records.
--> In the William Wanless/Alice Sloan tree, William died in Feb 1810 after a coal mine accident in Killingworth (Longbenton). Per children's birth records, his wife Alice Sloan was born in Killeshandra, County Cavan, Ireland. Children (all born at Longbenton) include: William b. 1803, James b. 1805, Henry b. 1808, George b. 1807, plus 2 unknown earlier sons born unknown, plus a son between George & Henry. The family seems to disappear from Longbenton records after the father's death in 1810.
