    • Thomas and J.W. Clayton attended a meeting held at Deerfield Church for the purpose of organizing a Bell/Everett club for the Deerfield Precinct. A Vigilance Committee for the precinct was created and J.W. Clayton and K. Craig were appointed to it. Many other precincts were creating or already had one of these clubs. John Bell and Edward Everett were the National party, pro-slavery candidates for Pres/Vice Pres against Lincoln and Hamlin. Democrats were generally for them. [Staunton Spectator online]
--J.W. is his brother, but this might not be this Thomas; it could be his uncle Thomas, but I bet not.
