    • Likely other children:
      Bateman Wanless who born about 1780-81 in Witton, DUR - could he have been christened at some nearby Methodist church not in the IGI?

      Ann chr 12 Dec 1790 at Lamesley, DUR, parents George & Elizabeth - this one seems unlikely as Sarah was chr. 1790 at All Sts Newcastle, same area as all the other christenings

      All children from Jane onward have been placed with this couple because:
      a) dau Sarah named a child Bateman (after her mother)
      b) if Sarah's birth establishes Geo & Eliz in All Saints, Newcastle in the 1790s, it seems likely that the rest of the births in All Saints to Geo & Eliz are for *this* couple, as there is no other George Wanless to Elizabeth marriage in the IGI or any other source so far except the Euphin/Ephrates/Elizabeth Grant mrg in 1784 at Earsdon.

      If the 2 Newtons really are this Geo's son, then Geo is likely the son of this couple:
      20 Jul 1746 John Wanlass = Elizabeth Newton at Chester-le-Street, Durham
      who had these possible children:
      07 JUN 1747 Luke Wanlass s/o John - might this be the Luke who married Ann Jackson at Alston in 1775? But if this were true, we should see a DNA match between these 2 lines, and we have not.

      29 OCT 1749 George Wanlas s/o John -- note this Geo is a good age to marry in 1771
      09 FEB 1752 John Wanlass s/o John -- might this be the John who married Ann Bails or Elizabeth Hunt in Alston?

      The burial of Newton in 1782 places George & Elizabeth in Witton Gilbert at the time when Bateman Wanless was supposed to be born there.
