| Notes |
- Possible marriage from Scottish Church Records database:
Dundee, Forfar (Angus), Scotland 12 Jun 1819Wanles, John a baker & Margaret dtr of Thomas Ramsay a weaver both of this parish, married 28 June
-- his occupation is right (matches son James's death record which says his father John was a baker) and it's the right timeframe given that son James was b. abt 1827. Also note that James named his son William Ramsay Wanless - after James's mother? If this is right, James had (at least) sisters Ann (md. John Peat) & Mary (see the Scots of Dundee database).
He MAY be the 40-yr-old confectioner living in Ramsay's Court, Dundee in the 1841 census OR the 50 yr old baker living at Inverbrothock, Arbroath.
Possible death record: St George, Edinburgh
On 14 March 1864, at 11 a.m at St. Cuthberts Poorhouse, District St. George, Edinburgh
JOHN WANLESS died aged 76 years. Pauper Widower. Parentage unknown to informant
Cause: Old and Debility
Informant: John Clark, Governor
Ref: 685/1/302
-- however note that this is NOT the John, although born about 1788 to the best of the informant's knowledge, who married Margaret Ramsay because he was dead when dau. Ann married in 1843, per her marriage record; see John & Margaret's entry in the Scots of Dundee database
Not found in 1861 Scots census.
