    Notes
    • All children's names & ages from 1850 census.

LDS Ancestral File of the Family Records of Bernice A. Rich (desc. of Bryson) also lists these additional children, who do not appear in the 1850 census: Betty (abt 1846), Mary (abt 1848), and Annie (abt 1850). If they existed, they must have died very young, before 1850. Same record does not mention Hanson and shows "David"s birth as 1842.

No will/death certificate/probate record in Lewis Co. courthouse. Marriage to Elizabeth Smith recorded there.

      LAND:
1829 Jan 21: John & Leven bought 200 acres on Browns Mtn between Browns Ck and Knapps Ck from their father Ralph. See his entry.

1832 5 Jul: John located 115 acres on Browns Mtn. adj. to Ralph Wanless. [Poca. Co. Entry Book; Grants 82, p.196; LVA index-Wanger-card 11]

1838 Oct 12: John Wanless & his wife Elizabeth & Leven (spelled Seven and Seaven] Wanless and his wife Nancy, all of Pocahontas Co, VA, sold 200 acres on Browns Mtn between Browns Ck and Knapps Ck (purchased in 1829 from their father Ralph) to Ralph Wanless -- I don't know if they sold the land back to their father or to their brother; probably brother. See father's entry. [Poca. Deed Bk 3, p.100; have copy in land file]

1838 Oct 12: John Wanless & Elizabeth his wife of Pocahontas Co, VA, sold to Ralph Wanless of the same county and state, for $1, 115 acres on Browns Mtn. [Poca. Co. Deed Bk 3, p.102] -- this appears to be the land John located in 1832. Perhaps the 2 land sales on the same date indicate that he's preparing to move west.

1854: Not listed in Poca. Co. tax lists, so probably moved out by this time. [1981 Poca. Co. History, p.24)

      From Lewis Co. Grantee Index:
1868: David & John bought from Anthony Spaur, 1 ac. Rains Run, Big Skin Ck. Per the county clerk, this is the earliest Wanless land transaction in Lewis Co, which formed in 1816.
1884: Davis bought from Elizabeth, Int 2 Tracts Raines Run [INTerest in?] -- this might mean John is dead
