| Notes |
- Given his name, he is almost certainly a son of George Wanless & Elizabeth Bateman of Alston, Cumberland. Note that G&E moved to & died in Wallsend, where Bateman married & had his first 3 children. However, it's puzzling that this Bateman claims to have been born in Witton DUR - we would have expected him to have been born in Wallsend, NBL, as otherwise it means G & E lived in Witton DUR for awhile. Diligent searches have been made for Bateman's baptism/birth/parentage, with no results yet. Sheila Wanless checked checked for baptism at Hilton, Witton, Witton Park, Witton le Wear, Witton le Dale, Witton Gilbert and even Wilton, and checked records at Durham University. See Ken & Colin Wanless's database. See also Doris Farley's database for potential brother John.
Possible sister Elizabeth married John Craster/Craister in Wallsend on the same day - see the "unattached" database for her.
George & Elizabeth Wandless had a dau. Ann chr. 12 Dec 1790 in Lamesley, DUR, for which there is no matching marriage in the IGI (meaning it may be the same Geo Wanless and Elizabeth Bateman)
