      John Clayton Gwin - Private, Company I, 19th Virginia Cavalry.  Born October
      29, 1845.  Enlisted at Huntersville, Pocahontas County, W. Va., December 4,
      1863.  Present on roll for June 30, 1863 to February 29, 1864, mounted,
      enlistment bounty due.  Present on roll for February 29, 1864 to August 31,
      1864.  Absent on roll for September 1, 1864 to October 31, 1864, sick; $100
      bond due.  Paroled at Staunton, June 1, 1865, described as 20 years of age,
      5'11" tall, fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes.  Post war roster
      shows he was wounded at Martinsburg, W. Va., during the war.  Post war
      resident of Bath and Augusta Counties.  Married in Bath in 1878.  Died in
      Augusta Co., November 14, 1909.  Buried at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cem.

      Pension granted in April 1908. Says he had lived in Middlebrook for 13 years, was a farmer, and was disabled by kidney trouble "from exposure during the war" and tuberculosis contracted more recently.
