#8: Descendants of Percival Wanlis & Grace Tomson
This Wanless family originates around Chester Le Street, Durham, England in the early 1600s. Primary County Durham locations are Houghton Le Spring, Chester le Street, Washington, Chilton, Lamesley. Most worked various jobs in the coal mines.
This database focuses primarily on descendants of Robert Wanless (1793-1839) & his wife Alice Mould and their sons:
- Robert (b. 1812), a coal miner/colliery manager who moved around from the Shildon DUR area to Flimby & Hensingham in Cumberland and then returned to Durham, around Bishop Auckland. His granddaughter Jessie Eddy immigrated to the US, settling in Harrisburg, Saline co, Illinois about 1906.
- William (b. abt 1816), a blacksmith who immigrated from England to Sangamon co, Illinois with his wife and children to the USA n 1865, following the coal mine industry. His children and grandchildren moved on to Knox Co, Indiana; McLean county, Kentucky; and finally Providence, Webster co, Kentucky, and Harrisburg, Illinois.
- Mark (b. abt 1826), a coal mine manager who lived his whole life around Colliery Row, Houghton-le-Spring, Durham
More recently we have also moved the following branches into this tree:
- Robert Wandlass & Mary Parkin (married in 1788 in Lamesley). This coal-mining family lived around in Co. Durham around Edmondsley, Lamesley, Shadworth, West Rainton, & Washington, and some descendants eventually went to New Zealand.
- Luke Wandlass & Ann Hall (married in 1800 in Lamesley).
