Descendants of Archibald Wanless:Roxburgh, Scotland to Charleston, South Carolina

Archibald Wanless arrived in Charleston, South Carolina from Roxburghshire, Scotland, in about 1829. Oral & written history of the Fairbairn/Wanless family indicates that this Archibald was a son of John Wanless & Nelly Willis of Yetholm, Roxburghshire, and that he married an Irish or Scots woman named Margaret Moorehead in Charleston. He was a saddle and a harness maker. After fathering (possibly) two children, John Andrew and Lissy, Archibald died at sea while en route to Mobile, Alabama, probably between 1838 and 1850. We've been unable to locate this family in the 1830, 1840, or 1850 census, making it difficult to verify any data, although Archibald and John are listed in Charleston city directories in (respectively) 1838 and 1855.

Most of this database concerns the family and descendants of Captain John Andrew Wanless (1836-1915) and his wives (1) Theodosia Robinson and (2) Marie Angelique Arrivee. Primary locations are Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri (St. Louis).
